SabaeCity in Fukui Prefecture is an area known as “GymnastiTown”.Theopportunity for Sabaecity to become a gymnastic town came when FukuiNational tournament was held in 1968. In 1983, the Sabaemunicipal stand-upgymnasium was constructed as a gym for exercise gymnastics. In 1995, the firstworld gymnastics world event was held in Sabaecity. In order to hold thetournament, Sun Dome Fukui was built as a competition facility. At this time,“Gymnastics Sabae” was actively used as a catchphrase. As the words from theChairman of the International Gymnastics Federation‘s Chief of the InternationalGymnastics Federation said “I will give Fukui citizens a full score of 10 points,”the tournament ended in a great success.In 2018, the National Sports Festival will also be held at Sun Dome Fukui.•
